Academia and Teaching

Professor Peter Neville is an animal behaviourist who was in practice for the referral and treatment of behaviour problems in cats and dogs in the UK for over thirty years. He began his professional career as a Research Biologist for the Universities Federation for Animal Welfare before progressing into companion animal behaviour therapy in the late 1980s.

He established the first pet behaviour referral clinic at a UK Veterinary School at the Dept of Veterinary Medicine, Bristol in 1990, served as Clinical Professor in Animal Behaviour at the Dept of Veterinary Medicine, University of Miyazaki, Japan from 2008-2011, and has been Adjunct Full Professor on an annual visiting teaching basis at The Dept of Animal Sciences, The Ohio State University, USA from 2009 until the present day.  

Peter is a Founding Partner at the Centre of Applied Pet Ethology International, founded in the UK in 1993. Author and speaker

Peter is also the author of the internationally best-selling books 'Do Cats Need Shrinks?' and 'Do Dogs Need Shrinks?' and author/co-author of 15 other books, including 'EMRA Intelligence: the revolutionary new approach to treating behaviour problems in dogs'. Peter has also authored/co-authored various scientific papers, produced/presented several DVDs/films on feline, lupine and canine behaviour, and still writes every month in the leading UK pet magazines Dogs Today and Your Cat. He is an experienced media broadcaster and spokesperson on animal behaviour matters in the UK and lectures frequently at veterinary, animal behaviour and training conferences all over the world.

African Safari Guide

Peter is nowadays often to be found in various parts of Africa as the resident animal behaviourist and assistant guide on bespoke safari tours. He helps run unique ‘hands-on’ safaris throughout southern and East Africa for his colleague, top naturalist, writer and tour guide Andrew Rae of Rae Safaris, based in Johannesburg www.raesafaris.co.za

Family

When in Europe, Peter now lives in Helsinki, Finland with his partner Stella and Spooch, their Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever and two tabby cats. He has two grown-up children, a daughter living in New Zealand, and a son in Brighton, UK.
